It was 2013 when I said “enough”

It was 2013 when I felt I had to make a drastic move to help myself. I had actively been trying to recover from bulimia since 2007 with no success. I decided to help myself with what I knew best: researching and seeking answers. I encountered people, knowledge and perspectives that helped me challenge my own beliefs about health and the purpose of life. Armed with new cognitive skills and beliefs, I fought the eating disorder inside of me, daily… until it became quieter and quieter, and eventually I started feeling free and in peace with my body, like never before. I did all that alone because, back then, I struggled to ask for help, which is something I had to learn later on, to stay recovered. I know how hard it is to recover from an eating disorder completely alone, and I don’t want you to get caught up in the loneliness and despair that we can feel inside an eating disorder. I’m here to give you a hand, and to make a “recovered life” for you possible, together.

Start by challenging some beliefs behind the eating disorder

Many of us developed an eating disorder because someone told us that we needed to lose weight. Due to the persistence medical perspective that a thin body = good health, me and a colleague put together a brief article that challenges the reliability of the BMI and the weight metric, as health indicators.
